Non-Scriptural Readings

Here is an amazing thing. I tend to get bogged down in detail sometimes, but here is a guy who carried it to an extreme and put my meagre efforts to shame. I am thankful that I am not like Monseigneur Rowland, but, at the same time, think it is a shame not to use this incredible index and listing he created, over a few decades, of non-scriptural readings in the Liturgy of the Hours. I tested it briefly today by just searching for August 4 and, sure enough, the search led me right to today’s reading by saint of the day, St. John Vianney, who was such a good confessor that he is said to have spent 18 hours a day in the confessional.

Here is a link to his work and his personal explanation of it.

At least read his explanation. It is a kind of personal testimony. I’m going to add this link to the page of helps in this blog so I will always know how to find it.
