July 19th, 2017 – Dysphoria

Discussion prior to the Morning Prayer centered on a National Catholic Bioethics Center on Health Care and the Life Sciences (NCBC) article by Edward J. Furton: A Critique of “Gender Dysphoria” in DSM-5. Here is a definition of dysphoria.

I wanted to post the article which focused on results of gender reassignment surgeries but it is available only to subscribers ($28). However, there is a statement on the NCBC website addressing the transgender issue in more general terms. Below is a screen shot of the website and the first paragraph of the article which can be read by clicking HERE.

The pertinent paragraph from the Catechism of the Catholic Church is No. 2333:

So, my feeling is that if we die to ourselves and are lost in service and love, we won’t be too worried about our “identity” other than as a child of God. If we “live according to the flesh,” we risk descent into narcissism. Another definition:
